Following the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs' advice, stakeholders in the Tricity have agreed to a two-coach metro system. The ministry suggested this during a meeting in Delhi on January 15th, urging them to consider a two-coach metro instead of Metrolites for the proposed Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS)...

network in Chandigarh Tricity. During the meeting, RITES presented revised alignments near the railway station along the proposed metro corridor 1 and connectivity from Zirakpur to Panchkula via the proposed metro corridor 2. While all stakeholders have agreed to the suggested changes, the UT advisor has stated that formal confirmation will be made at the next Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA) meeting. Regarding the proposed 21-hectare depot land near Paroul in New Chandigarh, Punjab officials confirmed it has been removed from the PLP land (Punjab Land Preservation Act). They will re-examine the possibility of making this land available for the proposed metro depot. If this particular land parcel is unavailable, alternate land parcels meeting the technical requirements for the metro depot should be identified and notified to the Chandigarh Administration and RITES for further action. The study for the Tricity's (Chandigarh, Panchkula, and Mohali) Phase 1 MRTS network's alternative analysis report and detailed project report was awarded to RITES Limited. RITES presented the traffic and system selection report in December 2023. The Phase 1 corridors include: a route from Paroul (New Chandigarh) to Sector 28, Panchkula, spanning 32.20 km with 26 stations; a route from Sukhna Lake to ISBT Zirakpur via the Airport, spanning 36.4 km with 29 stations; and a route from Sector 39 to Transport Light Chowk via Tribune Chowk, spanning 13.8 km.

Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry ka advice ke baad, Tricity ke stakeholders do-coach metro system pe agree ho gaye hain.

Tricity (Chandigarh, Panchkula aur Mohali) ke Phase 1 MRTS network ke liye alternative analysis report aur detailed project report ki taiyyari ke liye adhyayan RITES Limited ko aavantit kiya gaya tha. Traffic and system selection report RITES dwara December 2023 mein pesh ki gayi thi.Phase 1 ke galiyaron mein Paroul (New Chandigarh) se Sector 28, Panchkula tak ka marg shamil hai – 26 stations ke saath 32.20 km; Sukhna lake se hawaai adda ke through ISBT Zirakpur tak – 29 stations ke saath 36.4 km; aur Sector 39 se Tribune Chowk hote hue Transport Light Chowk tak – 13.8 km.
