Indian Railways reduces speed of Vande Bharat, Gatiman Express trains to 130 kmph

The Railway Board has reduced the speed of the Gatiman Express and Vande Bharat trains from 160 kmph to 130 kmph on the New Delhi-Agra route due to safety concerns following the Kanchanjunga Express accident. This decision was made until the automatic train protection system, known as 'Kavach', is operational. The...

speed reduction came into effect on June 25th, 2024. The 'Kavach' system, developed by RDSO, is designed to automatically apply brakes in emergencies. The Agra division is working on the installation of 'Kavach' on an 80-km stretch between Mathura and Palwal for trial purposes.

Kanchanjunga Express accident ke baad safety ke liye Railway Board ne Gatiman Express aur Vande Bharat trains ki speed 160 kmph se kam karke 130 kmph kar di hai. Yeh decision New Delhi-Agra route pe liya gaya hai aur yeh tab tak rahega jab tak 'Kavach' naam ka automatic train protection...

is accelerating the installation of the Kavach system on various routes to prevent accidents. The proposal to reduce speed is a temporary measure until the Kavach system is installed on all routes and trains. The proposed speed reduction affects several trains, including the Delhi-Jhansi-Delhi Gatiman Express (12050/12049), Delhi-Khajuraho-Delhi Vande Bharat Express (22470/22469), Delhi-Rani Kamalapati-Delhi Vande Bharat Express (20172/20171), and Delhi-Rani Kamalapati-Delhi Shatabdi Express (12002/12001). If implemented, the speed reduction would increase travel time by 25-30 minutes for these trains.

North Central Railway ne Railway Board se request kiya hai ki kuch Vande Bharat Express aur Gatiman Express trains ki speed 160 km/h se kam karke 130 km/h kar di jaye. Ye request Bengal mein hui train accident ke baad aayi hai, jisse safe train operations ke baare mein chinta badh...

gayi hai. Railway accidents rokne ke liye, Kavach system ko lagane ka kaam tezi se chal raha hai. Jab tak har route aur train mein Kavach system nahi lag jata, tab tak speed kam karne ka yeh temporary measure hai. Is speed reduction se Delhi-Jhansi-Delhi Gatiman Express (12050/12049), Delhi-Khajuraho-Delhi Vande Bharat Express (22470/22469), Delhi-Rani Kamalapati-Delhi Vande Bharat Express (20172/20171), aur Delhi-Rani Kamalapati-Delhi Shatabdi Express (12002/12001) jaisi trains par asar padega. Agar yeh proposal maan liya gaya, to in trains ka travel time 25-30 minutes badh jayega.

Vande Bharat ट्रेनों की स्पीड घटाई जाएगी, रेलवे के बड़े अधिकारियों ने ऐसी क्या चिंता जता दी?

Following the recent Kanchenjunga Express accident, the Railway Board is considering a proposal to reduce the speed of premium trains like Vande Bharat and Gatiman Express from 160 kmph to 130 kmph. This proposal, initiated by the North Central Railway, cites safety concerns and the malfunctioning Train Protection Warning System (TPWS)...

on the Delhi-Agra-Jhansi route. While the initial proposal to reduce speed to 130 kmph was submitted in November 2023, a new proposal was submitted on June 25th, 2024, after the TPWS system remained unrepaired. The decision to reduce speed is expected to impact at least 10 premium train timings. Critics argue that this action may contradict the original purpose of these high-speed trains and that a more thorough investigation into the root cause of the accidents is necessary before making such a decision.

Kanchenjunga Express ka accident hone ke baad, Railway Board ab premium trains jaise Vande Bharat aur Gatiman Express ki speed 160 kmph se ghata kar 130 kmph karne ka proposal de raha hai. North Central Railway ne yeh proposal diya hai, aur unka kehna hai ki yeh safety ke liye zaruri...

hai, kyunki Delhi-Agra-Jhansi route pe Train Protection Warning System (TPWS) kharab hai. November 2023 mein pehle bhi yeh proposal diya gaya tha, lekin ab June 25th, 2024 ko fir se proposal aaya hai, kyunki TPWS abhi tak thik nahi hua hai. Isse kam se kam 10 premium train ke timings badalenge. Kuch log keh rahe hain ki isse high-speed trains ka asli maqsad pura nahi hoga, aur accident ke asli wajah ki jaanch kiye bina speed kam karna thik nahi hai.

Railways to bring down speed of select Vande Bharat, Gatiman Express trains

Indian Railways is planning to reduce the speed of premium trains like Vande Bharat and Gatiman Express from 160 kmph to 130 kmph on certain routes due to safety concerns. This decision was made after a recent accident involving the Kanchanjunga Express in West Bengal. The North Central Railway proposed the...

speed reduction, citing the failure of the Train Protection & Warning System (TPWS) on the Delhi-Agra-Jhansi routes. While the Railway Board is expected to approve the proposal, former officials like Shubhranshu, the mastermind behind Vande Bharat Express, criticized the decision, arguing that reducing speed without addressing the root cause of the TPWS malfunction is not a viable solution. They believe that focusing on proper maintenance of high-tech signaling equipment and tracks is crucial for enabling safe high-speed train operations.

Indian Railways jaldi hi premium trains jaise ki Vande Bharat aur Gatiman Express ki speed 160 kmph se kam karke 130 kmph karne wala hai, yeh bhi kuchh routes pe, safety ke liye. Yeh decision West Bengal mein Kanchanjunga Express ka accident hone ke baad liya gaya. North Central Railway ne...

yeh speed kam karne ka proposal diya hai, kyunki Delhi-Agra-Jhansi routes pe Train Protection & Warning System (TPWS) fail ho gaya tha. Railway Board ke is proposal ko approve karne ki ummeed hai, par ex-officials jaise ki Shubhranshu, jo Vande Bharat Express ke peeche dimag hain, yeh decision ko criticize kar rahe hain, unka kehna hai ki speed kam karke root cause of TPWS malfunction ko address nahi kiya ja raha hai, yeh solution nahi hai. Unka belief hai ki high-tech signalling equipment aur tracks ka proper maintenance karna jaruri hai, taki safe high-speed train operations ho sake.

I agree.

According to some recent discussions in the forum, it is a temporary step, until the long awaited , so called "kavach installation" on 160 kmph routes. track-fitted RFID tags shall be used for communicating an upcoming signal in and level crossing in driver cabin. Also ,There have been recent instances of Gatimaan running way over PSR at places.

However, I still regard it as a retrograde step. Despite field trials between 2015-2017 and live demonstration in 2022 , It seems kavach installation has not been done on routes with trains running at 160kmph . None of the recent rail accidents (except in Balasore one) were trains running at 110 or 130 kmph , let alone 160 .

Some issues have been plaguing IR for long - Lack of proper fencing, lack of adequate security system, lack of R&D in improvement of rail security, huge vacancies - They are trying to brush these under the carpet by reducing speed in name of risk mitigation .

Quoting from the above article -"we were not able to run trains at 160 kmph because the track was not safe to operate at that speed. Unless the organisation is culturally ready to maintain high-tech signalling equipment, high-speed tracks and rolling stock, no matter what trains we buy or make, we will be constrained to run at lower speed only."

Freights are bumping into standing passenger trains causing rampage into last three coaches.
How the slowing down of passenger trains would help in such accidents case scenario?

Agree
It is more of a coverup exercise - issues like lack of adequate high-tech signalling equipment, high-speed tracks , maintainance issues, long working hours of LPs and ALPs , snail's pace progress on installation of anti collision systems - they are trying to divert attention from these issues by reducing speed in name of "risk mitigation and security measures". God forbid , but accidents can happen, and, have happened in the past at even lower speeds .

No more 160 Kmph | Indian Railways drops speed of High Speed Trains for safety

Indian Railways has decided to reduce the speed of several high-speed trains operating at 160 km/h to 130 km/h to enhance passenger safety and allow for the implementation of the Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, specifically the IR-ATP Kavach system. This decision affects the Vande Bharat Express trains on the New...

Delhi-Rani Kamlapati and Hazrat Nizamuddin-Khajuraho routes, and the Gatiman Express between New Delhi and Jhansi. The ATP system will automatically control train speeds and prevent accidents by ensuring adherence to speed limits. The speed reduction is a temporary measure until the ATP system is fully implemented, and Indian Railways is committed to providing safe and reliable services.

Indian Railways ne kuchh high-speed trains ki speed kam karne ka faisla liya hai, jo pehle 160 km/h chal rahi thi, ab yeh 130 km/h chalengi. Iska maksad passengers ki safety ko badhana aur Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, specifically IR-ATP Kavach system, ko implement karna hai. Yeh faisla New Delhi-Rani...
