A new train from Punalur to Palakkad Junction via Kottayam, Ernakulam Town named 'Palaruvi Express' to be inaugurated through video link from Rail Bhavan on 19.04.2017. It will run ahead of Venad Express on its way to PGT & follow Venad on its way back.
Tran No. 16791 PUU - PGT will depart PUU @ 0325 & arrive PGT @ 1320. Train will leave QLN @ 0500 and reach ERN @ 0935.

Yeah; virtually crawls from PUU to KTYM. Halts at almost all stations; will have the distinction of being the first express train to halt @ Oachira(OCR). At present 9 pairs of Passenger/MEMU trains halt there.
Also, this will be the second express train to stop @ Cheriyanad(CYN), after Venad!
Still beyond KTYM, the new train is having limited halts as of now. But soon, other MPs/MLAs will exert pressure and make it stop everywhere. 16605/6 Ernad Express too was launched in similar fashion; halts everywhere between MAQ & SRR, but had stoppages of...

All said & done, nice that SR is introducing a train ahead of Venad Express from QLN to ERN(and beyond). Considering it stoppage & average speed, it would've been nice if it was launched as a FP, so that commuters saved on fare!

For us its good..we need to travel between ERN and KTYM/CGY/TRVL. thats our section..for me its a normal train..better than many others with no halt after KTYM ;)

In name it is an express,but actually it is a passenger train.I think, in future number of stops should increases to nearly 25-40.For what purpose railway giving so much stops for express trains? Also Loop line stations consume more time than other stations.

Couple of months back, 16302/01 was given temporary stoppage @ STKT where both platforms are on loop line. As such Venad runs late; now Railways have an additional excuse for its late running.
Wish they designed stations in such a way that platforms are on the main line & not on loops; wish they constructed more stations like PVRD/AMPA where both up & down platforms lie on mainline.
Also the scope of increasing maximum permitted speed on loop lines from current 15 kmph to atleast 30(am not sure if this can be done...

due to technical reasons) should be explored; former DRM/TVC did try to increase the loop line speed, but didn't succeed.
PUU - PGT Express is going to be a glorified passenger; wish they classified it as FP so that ticket fares will be less!!

If remove loop track of karunagappalli (KPY)(in PF 1), Varkala(PF 1) and Trippunnithura stations, we can save about 20 minutes of Venad express and other trains and remove unwanted stops
of venad ,malabar ,island expresses.
