Northeast's first, 137-year-old Dangari Railway Station in Assam awaits government attention

Dangari Railway Station in Assam, established in 1883, was the first railway station in the Northeast. It played a crucial role in transporting tea from Assam's plantations to global markets during the British era. The station was a vital hub along with other stations like Sadiya, Saikhowa, Talap, and Doom Dooma....

Iconic steam engines, like Jayamati and Gadapani, were used to transport goods and passengers. After India's independence, the Sadiya region remained significant for tea exports. However, a devastating earthquake in 1950 submerged the Sadiya and Saikhowa stations. The transition to broad gauge lines in the 1960s led to the closure of the Dangari line due to operational losses. In recent years, protests have been held demanding the revival of the line. The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) ran a demonstration train from Dangari to Makum junction, but regular services remain discontinued. The closure has impacted several other stations in the region, including Barhapjan, Hansora, Doomdooma, Rupai, Talap, and Dangari, leaving them non-functional. The Dibru-Sadiya Railway, one of the pioneering railway companies in British India, supported the growth of the tea industry. The first section opened in 1882, and the Makum Junction followed in 1884. The network converted to broad gauge in the late 1990s. Despite the closure of the Dangari line, the station remains a symbol of Assam's railway history and its importance in the tea trade.

Assam ka Dangari Railway Station, 1883 mein banaya gaya tha, yeh pura Northeast ka pehla railway station tha. British era mein, Assam ke chah ke bagiche se chai ko global market mein bhejne mein isne bada role nibhaya. Sadiya, Saikhowa, Talap, aur Doom Dooma jaise stations ke saath, yeh station ek...

important hub tha. Jayamati aur Gadapani jaise iconic steam engines ka use, goods aur passengers ko transport karne ke liye kiya jata tha. India ki azadi ke baad bhi, Sadiya region chai export mein important raha. Lekin 1950 mein aaya earthquake ne Assam ki geography ko change kar diya, jisse Brahmaputra river ka range Dhala aur Sadiya ke beech badh gaya. Is aapda ne Sadiya aur Saikhowa railway stations ko dubo diya, lekin Dangari sahi salamat raha aur chalne laga. 1960s mein meter gauge se broad gauge line mein badlaav aane se Dangari ke liye downfall shuru ho gaya. Railway authorities ne operational losses ka baat kaha aur is route par train services band kar di. Pyare steam engines ko relocate kar diya gaya, Jayamati ko ab New Tinsukia mein Heritage Park mein dikhaya ja raha hai aur doosra Dinjan Army camp mein hai. Barhapjan, Hansora, Doomdooma, Rupai, Talap, aur Dangari jaise stations ke band hone se Makum Railway Junction aur 5 other stations non-functional reh gaye hain. Halanki ek Diesel-Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) train ne thodi der ke liye chalana shuru kiya tha, lekin use band kar diya gaya. Ab yeh stations band aur kharab ho rahe hain. Dibru-Sadiya Railway, British India ki pioneering railway companies mein se ek thi, jiske saath Northeast India mein railway services shuru hue. Assam Railways and Trading Company (AR&TC) ki malik, metre-gauge railway ne coal, tea, aur passengers ko transport kiya, jisse chai industry ke tej vikas mein sahayata mili. Pehla section 1882 mein khula, aur Assam ka pehla railway junction, Makum Junction, 1884 mein khula. Is network ne late 1990s mein broad gauge mein badlav kiya. Dangari Railway Station, Assam ke rail history ka birthplace, region ke heritage aur uske logo ki relentless spirit ka symbol hai. Chalne ki muskilaten hai, lekin station ki legacy inspire karti rehti hai, hamen uske tea trade aur aur bhi bahut kuchh mein vital role ki yaad dilati hai.
