Previously, he won bronze at the Sub-Junior National, gold at the School National, and gold at the Khelo India Youth Games. His coach, Jitendra Singh, attributes his success to training with senior international wrestlers like Yashpal and Virendra Kundu. Shivam also benefited from the experience of international coaches Chandra Vijay Singh and Janardan Yadav. Shivam's achievement was lauded by officials from the Railway Stadium, including Pankaj Singh, Shivendr Singh, and Dharamveer Patel.
