Ahmedabad. Prior to the lockdown imposed in March 2020 due to the pandemic, senior citizens and recognized journalists received a 50% discount on train fares. This discount was not reinstated when train services resumed in June 2022, leading to various platforms, including both Houses of Parliament, raising the issue. Vaishnav, in response to questions during a press conference, asserted that a 100-rupee ticket is effectively sold for 45 rupees, highlighting the existing discount. Earlier, an RTI response from Indian Railways revealed that they collected approximately 2,242 crore rupees from about 15 crore senior citizens in the fiscal year 2022-23.

June 2022 mein train services restart hone par yeh discount restore nahi kiya gaya, jisse parliament ke dono houses aur aur platforms par yeh issue uthaya gaya. Vaishnav ne press conference mein yeh statement dekar yeh emphasize kiya ki 100 rupees ka ticket 45 rupees mein bik raha hai, isse existing discount ko highlight kiya gaya. Earlier, Indian Railways ne ek RTI application ka response dekar bataya ki unhone fiscal year 2022-23 mein 15 crore senior citizens se 2,242 crore rupees collect kiye.
