Railways arm DFCCIL in talks with e-tailers, logistics firms

The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd (DFCCIL) is actively seeking bulk users for its newly constructed freight corridors. They have been in discussions with major e-commerce and logistics companies like Amazon, Meesho, Delhivery, Blue Dart Express, and Shiprocket to lease out the infrastructure for cargo transport. DFCCIL has already...

begun a trial service with Amazon since August 2023, shipping packages along the 659-km Rewari-Palanpur freight route. The trial service involves using a special train coach with a capacity of 18 tonnes per day, and the plan is to expand the service to 20 coaches per day in both directions. The full operationalization of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), including the final stretch between Saphale and JNPT, is expected to be completed by June 2024, which will further boost demand. DFCCIL emphasizes that the WDFC will significantly reduce transportation times and logistics costs for companies. While some experts believe that the economics of using the freight corridor will be appealing to logistics companies, others are more skeptical, pointing out the companies' existing transportation networks and the potential challenges in transitioning to a new system. The Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) has been operational since last month, while the WDFC still has a 109-km stretch under construction, a crucial section that will provide direct connectivity between Mumbai and Delhi.

se Amazon ke saath ek trial service chalaya ja raha hai, jismein 659 km Rewari-Palanpur freight route par packages ship kiye ja rahe hain. Trial service mein 18 tonne per day capacity wala ek special train coach use ho raha hai, aur plan hai ki is service ko dono taraf 20 coaches per day tak expand kiya jaaye. Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) ka full operation, jismein Saphale aur JNPT ke beech ka final stretch bhi shamil hai, June 2024 tak complete hone ki ummeed hai, jisse demand aur badhegi. DFCCIL ka kehna hai ki WDFC se companies ke liye transportation time aur logistics cost bahut kam ho jaayega. Kuchh experts ka maanana hai ki freight corridor ka economics logistics companies ke liye bahut accha hoga, lekin kuchh aur skeptical hain, woh companies ke existing transportation network aur new system mein transition ke possible challenges ki baat karte hain. Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) pichhle mahine se operational hai, jaise ki WDFC ka 109 km ka stretch abhi bhi construction ke phase mein hai, ye section bahut important hai kyunki yeh Mumbai aur Delhi ke beech direct connectivity provide karega.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
