The coach door was left open, and station cameras captured people getting on and off the train, while the coach's camera was switched off. The burning compartment was detached, and a new compartment was added before the train departed for Amritsar. The Chhattisgarh Express was parked on platform 2 after being cleaned at the coaching depot late at night. The train was scheduled to depart as the Bilaspur-Korba passenger at 7:30 am. However, around 5:50 am, stall vendors noticed smoke coming from the M-1 Economy AC coach and informed the station master. Flames were seen between berth numbers 40 and 48. The station master summoned a fire extinguisher and broke the coach window from the outside to extinguish the fire. The fire was extinguished from the inside as well to prevent it from spreading to other berths or the rack. After the fire was brought under control, the compartment was cut off and moved to the yard near the RRI cabin. The remaining compartments were reattached to the remaining half of the train.
