Usually Marathi and Hindi use same script i.e. Devanagari. So now a days if pronunciation in both the languages happens to be the same, then only one name in Devnagari is painted and I think this is good as not only it saves paint and money but also both language ppl can read it without problem. Eg. AURANGABD , JALNA, KOLHAPUR etc. However if there is difference in pronunciation then name in native language is also painted, like BHUSAVAL, JALGAON, HUZUR SAHIB (SAHEB in Marathi) NANDED etc. But this convention is not followed strictly in Maharashtra. As far as preference is concerned, I think native language must come first by rule and if this does not happen, than a complaint can be made on grievance portal.
