The train, numbered 18310, the Jammu Tawi-Tatanagar Express, departed from Duddi railway station around 12:30 AM for Garhwa in Jharkhand. The train had traveled about 3 kilometers when the driver noticed sleepers on the track near Dhanaura village, before Mahuaria station, near pole number 76/06. The loco pilot, displaying quick thinking, immediately applied the emergency brakes. The train, however, stopped only after hitting the sleepers, dragging them for about 100 meters. The loco pilot informed Duddi and Mahuaria stations about the incident. The station superintendent of Duddi Nagar, NK Sinha, and the Mahuaria station master, Arun Pandey, reported that the Jammu Tawi-Tatanagar Express departed from Duddi Nagar at 12:37 AM. While travelling 3 kilometers towards Dhanaura village, they discovered sleepers on the railway track. It was fortunate that the loco pilot's swift action averted a major accident. The Tata Jammu Tawi Express was halted for about half an hour due to the incident. The train arrived at Mahuaria from Duddi at 1:19 AM. Ten sleepers were found along the track, one of which had been placed on the rails by miscreants. At least four to five individuals are believed to be involved. The incident was reported to the GRP and Duddi Kotwali police. The police arrived at the scene and conducted an investigation.
