Sutlej Express, 1921 mein start hua tha aur pehle Ludhiana se Samasata tak chalta tha Phillaur-Nakodar-Lohian Khas-Firozpur-Kasur-Burewala-Maisli-Lodhran ke raaste. 1947 mein Punjab partition hone ke baad, Sutlej Express ka route badal gaya aur ab Moga-Firozpur-Kasur-Maisli-Lodhran ka rasta hai. Pehle 1947 tak, yeh train 11 ghante 45 minute mein 552 kilometer cover karti thi aur yeh ek raat bhar ki train thi. Lekin 1947-65 ke period mein route Moga ke through change ho gaya aur train ab 11 ghante 40 minute mein 533 kilometer ki doori tay kar leti thi aur ye ek din ki train ban gayi. 1965 ke India Pakistan War ke baad, train services Pakistan tak permanent rook di gayi aur Sutlej Express ka route Samasata aur Ganda Singhwala ke beech 409 kilometer ki doori kho gayi. Sutlej River mein Hussainiwala mein Stanford Bridge, jo 1600 meter lamba tha, war mein uda diya gaya aur kabhi bhi dubara banaya nahi gaya. Sutlej Express ko pehle sirf Firozpur se Ludhiana ke beech chalne ki permission thi, lekin 2015 mein Chandigarh tak extend kiya gaya.
