more... in New Delhi on Tuesday. Mr. Naidu submitted representation seeking speedy completion of pending works in the State, including connectivity between Amaravati and major cities in the south through high-speed trains.
He wanted the Railway Ministry to make sufficient budgetary allocations for the completion of the Kakinada-Pithapuram, Nadikudi-Srikalahasti and Guntukal-Srikalahasti lines besides requesting the Centre to hand over maintenance of the old bridge at Rajahmundry to the State Government. The State emphasised the need for ensuring that the allocations were made in the upcoming railway budget.
Mr. Chowdary said the Centre had given in-principle clearance for the railway zone in Visakhapatnam and the zone would be announced after the Union Cabinet formally gives its nod.
Development package
Creation of the special railway zone was part of the special development package assured to the State post bifurcation.
The State had also sought the Ministry to take up works on feeder line connecting the new capital Amaravati with Guntur and Vijayawada. The Ministry was requested to consider the proposal for laying third line between Visakhapatnam and Chennai besides examining the proposals for development of infrastructure at important railway stations through joint ventures.
The Railway Minister, he said, positively responded to the representation and promised that surveys would be undertaken on the proposals submitted by the State Government as well as the MPs from the State.
