Southern Railway. This information is based on the passenger revenue figures for 2023-2024 released by Indian Railways. The top eight stations in Kerala are also seeing an increase in revenue, with Thiruvananthapuram leading with 281.12 crore rupees. Thane (Mumbai) boasts the highest number of passengers with 93.06 crore, followed by Mumbai Kalyan at 83.79 crore and New Delhi at 39.36 crore. Thiruvananthapuram recorded 1.31 crore passengers. India has 28 stations in the highest group, Non-Suburban Group-1 (NSG-1), considering both passenger numbers and revenue. Central Railway, including Mumbai, has the most stations in this group with eight, followed by Southern Railway with three (Chennai, Egmore, and Tambaram). There are no Kerala stations in this group. Six stations that were in NSG-2 in 2017-2018 have now moved up to NSG-1.

Special train from Chennai to TVM via Kollam-Sengottai rail line from tomorrow onwards

The train consists of 14 Third AC Economy coaches out of 16 total coaches. The train departs from Tambaram to Kochuveli on Thursdays and Saturdays at 9:40 PM, reaching Kochuveli the next day at 1:40 PM. The return service from Kochuveli departs at 3:35 PM and arrives in Tambaram the following morning at 7:35 AM. Ticket prices vary based on the boarding station, starting from Rs 1,220 (Punalur) and reaching Rs 1,335 (Kochuveli). The train, numbered 06035 (Tambaram-Kochuveli) and 06036 (Kochuveli-Tambaram), utilizes LHB coaches, offering enhanced amenities and safety. This is the first instance of regular services on the Kollam-Sengottai route using LHB coaches.
