Bengaluru: Airport Trains Cost Just Rs 10, Here's Why People Don't Use It

Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has a train station, KIA Halt, offering affordable fares between Rs 10 and Rs 30. However, ridership is low, with only about 30 passengers daily. Reasons include lack of awareness, inconvenient timings, and the station's location being 3.5 km from the airport terminals. Passengers prefer using...

personal vehicles, cabs, or BMTC buses. The train service has six trains connecting KSR Bengaluru, Yeshwantpur, and Bengaluru Cantonment stations with KIA Halt, running throughout the week except for Sundays. A free shuttle bus connects the station to the airport terminals. To increase ridership, suggestions include adding more boarding points in densely populated areas, increasing the number of trains departing from KSR Bengaluru, and ensuring daily service.

Bengaluru ka Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) mein ek train station hai, KIA Halt, jahan Rs 10 se Rs 30 tak ka sasta ticket milta hai. Lekin, yeh station zyada popular nahin hai aur har din sirf 30 log hi iska use karte hain. Iska reason yeh hai ki log iske baare...

mein jaante nahin hai, train timings unke flights ke timings se match nahin karte, aur station airport se 3.5 km door hai. Zyadaatar log apne car, cabs, ya BMTC buses use karte hain. Train service mein 6 trains hain jo KSR Bengaluru, Yeshwantpur, aur Bengaluru Cantonment stations ko KIA Halt se jodte hain, aur ye har din chalti hain, sirf Sunday ko chhodd kar. Station se airport terminals tak free shuttle bus service bhi hai. Ridership badhane ke liye, suggestion hai ki zyada crowded areas mein aur boarding points banaye jaaye, KSR Bengaluru station se zyada trains chalai jaaye, aur daily service ensured ki jaaye.

Bengaluru Suburban rail: SWR gives 115 acres for Corridor 4, promises to okay airport line alignment

The South Western Railway (SWR) has provided 115 acres of land to the Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project (BSRP) for its 46.88-km line connecting Heelalige and Rajanukunte. This land handover was part of a long-term lease agreement signed on April 2. The SWR initially allocated 157.07 acres for Corridor 2 but later...

reduced it to 85.707 acres. The BSRP has awarded a contract to L&T Limited for the design and construction of viaducts for Corridor 4. The project faced delays due to alignment approval and land acquisition issues but has now commenced after these hurdles were cleared. The SWR has approved the revised alignment plan for Corridor 4, and K-RIDE is working on utility shifts, private land acquisition, and other physical hurdles for the corridor. Corridor 4 is expected to be completed by December 2026, with 19 stations. Meanwhile, K-RIDE has submitted a revised alignment for Corridor 1 (KSR Bengaluru-Devanahalli/Airport) to the SWR. The Minister for Infrastructure Development, MB Patil, has set a December 2027 deadline for Corridor 1, with the first phase focusing on the Yelahanka-Devanahalli section to be completed by December 2026, and the second phase covering the KSR Bengaluru-Yelahanka section to be ready by December 2027. The Rs 15,767-crore project, initiated in June 2022, has faced delays and challenges, including coordination issues between K-RIDE and the railways. Civil work contracts have been awarded for only two of the four corridors. The SWR has indicated their willingness to take over the project if necessary.

South Western Railway (SWR) ne Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project (BSRP) ke liye 46.88 km ki line ke liye Heelalige aur Rajanukunte ko connect karne ke liye 115 acres zameen di hai. Ye zameen handover ek long-term lease agreement ke under hua, jiska sign 2 April ko hua tha. SWR ne initially...

Corridor 2 ke liye 157.07 acres zameen allocate ki thi, but baad mein usko kam karke 85.707 acres kar diya. BSRP ne Corridor 4 ke liye viaducts ke design and construction ke liye L&T Limited ko contract diya hai. Project me alignment approval aur zameen acquisition se related issues ki wajah se delay aaya tha, lekin ab yeh issues clear ho gaye hain aur project start ho gaya hai. SWR ne Corridor 4 ke liye revised alignment plan ko approve kiya hai, aur K-RIDE utility shifts, private zameen acquisition, aur corridor ke liye doosre physical hurdles par kaam kar raha hai. Corridor 4 December 2026 tak complete hone ki ummeed hai, jisme 19 stations honge. Iske saath hi, K-RIDE ne Corridor 1 (KSR Bengaluru-Devanahalli/Airport) ke liye SWR ko revised alignment submit kiya hai. Infrastructure Development ke minister, MB Patil, ne Corridor 1 ke liye December 2027 ki deadline di hai, jiska pehla phase Yelahanka-Devanahalli section par focus karega, jiska December 2026 tak complete hone ka lakshya hai, aur doosra phase KSR Bengaluru-Yelahanka section ko cover karega, jiska December 2027 tak ready hone ka lakshya hai. Rs 15,767 crore ka yeh project, June 2022 me shuru hua tha, lekin isme delay aur challenges aaye hain, jisme K-RIDE aur railways ke beech coordination issue bhi shamil hain. Chaar corridors mein se sirf do corridors ke liye civil work contract award kiye gaye hain. SWR ne yeh bataya hai ki agar zarurat padi toh woh project ko apne hath mein le sakte hain.

The Bangalore Suburban Railway project, particularly the ‘Sampige’ corridor connecting Majestic to the Kempegowda International Airport, is facing delays. While the ‘Mallige’ corridor between Baiyappanahalli and Chikkabanavara is underway, the tender process for the ‘Sampige’ corridor has been slow, causing dissatisfaction among transportation experts. The ‘Sampige’ corridor was initially prioritized by...

the central government for its crucial role in connecting the airport, expecting it to be completed within three years, compared to six years for other corridors. Despite the urgent need for this connection, the state government is focusing on the ‘Mallige’ corridor. The ‘Sampige’ corridor is vital due to the increasing traffic to the airport, which is expected to reach 4-5 lakh passengers in the next few years. While a 58 km metro line connecting the airport will be completed by 2027, it will only serve 25% of the city, highlighting the importance of the suburban railway. Transportation experts emphasize the need to accelerate the ‘Sampige’ corridor project and suggest starting the ground-level work between Yeshwanthpur and Lottegollahalli, prioritizing the project’s completion within three years. They also point out the lack of a full-time managing director and the absence of continuous monitoring by the government as contributing factors to the delay. The project faces challenges with land acquisition but can be addressed through separate tenders for the ground-level work in Lottegollahalli, Yelahanka, and Devanahalli. The ‘Sampige’ corridor is the first of the suburban railway corridors, covering 41.4 km with an estimated cost of ₹5060 crore. It includes 8 elevated and 7 ground-level stations, connecting various locations including KSR Bangalore, Srirampura, Malleshwaram, Yeshwanthpur, Mathikere, Lottegollahalli, Kodigehally, Judicial Layout, Yelahanka, Nitte Meenakshi, Bettahalaasuru, Doddajala, Airport Trumpet, Airport Terminal, Airport KIADB, and Devanahalli.

Bangalore ka Suburban Railway project, khass karke 'Sampige' corridor jo Majestic se Kempegowda International Airport connect karta hai, bahut delay ho raha hai. 'Mallige' corridor, Baiyappanahalli se Chikkabanavara tak, chal raha hai, par 'Sampige' corridor ka tender process bahut slow hai, jisse transport experts bahut upset hain. 'Sampige' corridor ko pehle...

hi central government ne priority diya tha, kyunki yeh airport connect karta hai aur unka expect tha ki yeh 3 saal mein complete ho jayega, jabki dusre corridors ke liye 6 saal diya gaya tha. Is important connection ki urgent zaroorat ke baavajood, state government 'Mallige' corridor pe focus kar raha hai. 'Sampige' corridor bahut important hai kyunki airport ka traffic bahut badh raha hai, aur aage aane wale 4-5 saal mein 4-5 lakh passengers aa jayenge. 2027 tak, airport connect karne wala 58 km ka metro line complete ho jayega, par yeh city ka sirf 25% hi serve karega, isse suburban railway ki importance samjh aati hai. Transport experts 'Sampige' corridor project ko jaldi complete karne ka zor dete hain aur suggest karte hain ki Yeshwanthpur aur Lottegollahalli ke beech ground level ka kaam pehle shuru kiya jaaye, aur project ko 3 saal mein complete karne ki priority di jaaye. Unhone yeh bhi bataya hai ki managing director ka full time nahi hona aur government ki continuous monitoring ka na hona bhi delay ka ek reason hai. Project ko land acquisition ki wajah se challenges aarahi hai par yeh challenge Lottegollahalli, Yelahanka aur Devanahalli mein ground level ka kaam alag alag tenders ke through karke solve kiya ja sakta hai. 'Sampige' corridor suburban railway ka pehla corridor hai, yeh 41.4 km lamba hai aur iski estimated cost ₹5060 crore hai. Isme 8 elevated aur 7 ground level stations hain, yeh KSR Bangalore, Srirampura, Malleshwaram, Yeshwanthpur, Mathikere, Lottegollahalli, Kodigehally, Judicial Layout, Yelahanka, Nitte Meenakshi, Bettahalaasuru, Doddajala, Airport Trumpet, Airport Terminal, Airport KIADB aur Devanahalli ko connect karta hai.

Air traveller will not fully depend on BMTC vayu vajra while flying out in intermediate busstops, only the one who has lot of leisure time. Air travellers mostly take BMTC to reach home and business travellers and official trips take ola/Uber as they get refund. You can't expect South and West to come to BNC. They should be separate trains from Whitefield, Kengeri via Central Yesvantpur and BNC every hour.

If there are dedicated hourly trains, people can take such services.
While I agree that south (Jayanagar JP Nagar BTM etc) may not like to go via BNC, Koramangala /Sarjapur road/ HSR can travel to BNC if direct buses are there. Now not even a single bus is there from these areas to Cantonment station. Similarly, west (Rajaji nagar/ Vijaya nagar/ Kengeri) like to go via SBC instead of via BNC.
Malleshwaram, Yeshwantpura, Sadashiv nagar people will not come to BNC.

is the point of running few services from BNC? Just to say that we have done our part and now it is upto public to utilise them or not?
