Presnting A full journey compilation on the 12934 Ahemdabad Mumbai Central Karnavati Express- one of India’s first Intercity Express trains to get the modern and luxurious LHB coaches. The Karnavati Express, an Intercity type Superfast train, covers the 493 kilometres between the cities of Ahemdabad and Mumbai in about 7hours and 40mins at an average speed of 64 kmph, with a maximum permissible speed of 110 kmph and eight halts. The LHB coaches are fit for 160kmph and the section boasts of an MPS of 130kmph, if only the CRS cleared this train for higher speeds, the train could also touch an MPS of 130kmph which could reduce its running time significantly.
This compilation features the first part of a

full journey from Ahemdabad to Mumbai on the Karnavati express. Second week of June may be a hot period in north and certains parts of South India, but in Western India Heavy monsoon rains lash out during this period. Our journey was no different. After an initial dry run till Vadodra, It started raining heavily. Ours was a Monday morning journey, and this train seemed to be a commuter’s favourite. The Vadodra WAP5 in charge of the Karnavati barrelled southwards; notwithstanding the war of commuters inside its 2S coaches. Though we had reserved tickets, we couldn’t dream of going to the door beyond Vadodra. Such was the population density inside our D1. But we managed somehow.
Our start was delayed. Our train’s power was coupled to the rake as late as 04:55, our scheduled departure time. After a couple of crossings in the dark, namely the Aravali express and the Bandra-Bhavnagar Superfast, we arrive at Nadiad for our first halt as soon as the first light appears, and get a glimpse of the Narrow Gauge carriages towards the west end of the station. After Nadiad, we continue our MPS show, whilst meeting a train from home, the Bangalore-Gandhidham Express led by LHF WDP4 from Hubli shed. Post this high speed crossing, we arrive at the Milk Capital of India- Anand; for our second halt.
After departing from Anand, our merry MPS run continues, and our diesel spotting continued as well. Led by a near matching livery RTM WDM3A; the Jabalpur-Somnath express rushed past us soon after Anand. Following this, we also crossed the Mahi River Bridge at MPS. Having departed late, the WAP5 was in no mood to slow down and continued the MPS run wherever possible. Subsequently, the crossings of the Kochuveli-Bikaner express led by an ERS WDM3A at Ranoli& the Puri Ahemdabad Superfast Express led by a BRC WAP4 at Bajva follow. After Bajva, the Pune-Jodhpur Bhagat-ki-Kothi express crossed us shortly before Vadodra. As we breeze into the pf1 of Vadodra Jn.; BRC WAP1 hauls away a dead AMUL liveried BRC WAP5 and the rake of the Mumbai-Vadodra express to be shunted. A 5min halt and we take off from Vadodra.
As we move out of Vadodra, we cross the Howrah-Porbandar express. Our constant MPS run continues post Vadodra as we move towards Bharuch. After a 2min halt at Bharuch, we cross a BTPN rake headed north led by a Kalyan WAG9H, before stepping into the massive Narmada river bridge. Post Bharuch, we enjoy a merry run except for a minor slowdown at Kosamba Jn. This slowdown gives me an opportunity to spot some Narrow Gauge carriages and a ZDM class locomotive which operate on the Kosamba- Umparpada route. Slightly before Surat, we cross the Tapi River Bridge and encounter the outgoing Valsad-Dahod Intercity as we enter pf2 for a scheduled halt.
An unforgettable Journey onboard the Karnavati Express
