The line runs through the districts of Chandauli, Mirzapur, Prayagraj, Kaushambi, Fatehpur, Kanpur Nagar and Kanpur Dehat in Uttar Pradesh. It has 12 stations: New Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction, New Ahrora Road Junction, New Dagmagpur, New Mirzapur, New Unchadih, New Karachna Junction, New Manauri, New Sujapur, New Rasulabad, New Malwan, New Kanpur Junction and New Bhimsen Junction. The EDFC is meant to relieve congestion on the Delhi-Howrah main line, with over 80% of freight trains now being routed through it. This allows for increased passenger train frequency on the main line. Freight trains on the EDFC can run at a maximum speed of 100 km/h.
