Track construction for the underground section is progressing simultaneously with the civil work for the stations. The construction of both the 'up-line' and 'downline' between the ramp area in MacRobertganj and Nayaganj is complete, including the third rail installation. The construction of the 'up-line' between Nayaganj and Kanpur Central, spanning approximately 1250 meters, began in July and has been completed. On the 'downline', after completing rail laying and welding, the process of track slab laying has commenced. The Kanpur Metro utilizes ballast-less track for construction, and the track slabs incorporate derailment guards and provision for third rail installation. To reduce vibration and noise, a mass spring system is being used in the track. The Managing Director of UPMRC, Sushil Kumar, congratulated the engineering team for their remarkable progress. The next target is to complete the track slab laying on the 'downline' of this section. Once both lines are completed, the track from IIT to Kanpur Central will be fully ready for metro train operations. Recently, a successful test run of the Kanpur Metro train was conducted on the 'downline' from Motijheel to Nayaganj station. Currently, passenger services for the 24 km long Corridor-1 (IIT-Naubasta) are operating on the 9 km priority corridor (IIT-Motijheel).
