Endangered on the IUCN Red List, is vital for maintaining the balance of its ecosystem and is often targeted by wildlife traffickers in the Kaziranga National Park area. They can fetch up to ₹1 lakh per fish in the international grey market. The fish is protected under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, making its trade and possession illegal.

IUCN Red List mein Endangered category mein listed, Channa Barca apne ecosystem mein balance maintain karne mein top predator ke roop mein vital role nibhata hai. Iska presence apne habitat ki health aur quality bhi bataata hai. Lekin habitat loss, overfishing aur invasive species ka introduction iske survival ko khatre mein daal raha hai. Wildlife traffickers aksar Kaziranga National Park area ko target karte hain Channa Barca ko poach karne ke liye, jisko international grey market mein ₹1 lakh per fish tak milta hai. Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 ke under, yeh species schedule kiya gaya hai, jiske wajah se iska trade aur possession illegal hai.
