The incident caused a brief panic but there were no casualties or damage to property. Railway officials investigated the incident and found that the coupling had broken while the train was being moved, causing the bogie to derail. After the incident, the derailed bogie was lifted back onto the track with the help of a relief train from Madhupur. Despite the incident, train operations continued normally on both the up and down lines as the incident occurred on the non-passenger track. The extent of the damage is still being investigated.
