Is bifurcating Palakkad Railway Division justified? Kerala MP John Brittas raises concerns

CPI(M) MP John Brittas has written to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressing concern over a reported plan to split the Palakkad Railway Division and create a new Mangalore Division. He argues that this move lacks both economic and administrative justification and would negatively impact Kerala's railway infrastructure and socio-economic framework. Brittas...

highlights the contradiction between this proposal and a previous Southern Railway press statement denying any plans to alter the Palakkad Division. He urges the Minister to reconsider the bifurcation plan and instead focus on addressing the developmental needs of Kerala's railway infrastructure.

CPI(M) MP John Brittas ne Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw ko ek letter likha hai jisme unhone Palakkad Railway Division ko split karke ek new Mangalore Division banane ke plan ke baare mein concern express kiya hai. Unka argument hai ki is move ka na toh economic justification hai aur na hi...

administrative, aur yeh Kerala ke railway infrastructure aur socio-economic framework ko negatively impact karega. Brittas ne is proposal aur May 2024 mein Southern Railway ke press statement ke beech contradiction highlight kiya hai jisme unhone Palakkad Division mein koi bhi badlaav karne ke plan ko deny kiya tha. Unhone Minister se bifurcation plan ko reconsider karne ka aur Kerala ke railway infrastructure ki developmental needs ko address karne par focus karne ka request kiya hai.

No body said anything. There has not been any official notification. Its just that MoSR visited MAQ and he has asked SWR, KR & SR to submit a report as to how MAQ can be managed better. Once it is submitted, MoSR said that he will try and speak to the rail minister on the way ahead. Given the list of long pending other requests from other zones, I am not sure railways will go ahead. Others will also start asking. KR merger with IR is one step they should surely explore though
