According to neighbors, the couple had a strained relationship and frequent arguments. They had been married for four years and were living in a rented house. Mangala had been missing for three months, causing Laltu to struggle with taking care of his children and his work, which likely led to him experiencing depression and taking his own life and his children's. Laltu's mother and sister reside in Shankarada village, where his mother makes a living by selling wood from the forest.
