Officials said the DG RPF reached Banihal station from Srinagar by a special inspection rail car, along with the officials of the Northern Railway. He inspected the railway station and the RPF post. The 48.1-kilometer-long Banihal-Sangaldan section of the country's most ambitious Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project was dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 20. Out of the total 272-kilometer-long USBRL project, 161 kilometers were launched in the earlier phases. The 118-kilometer-long first phase, the Kazigund-Baramulla section, was inaugurated in October 2009. This was followed by the inauguration of the 18-kilometer-long Banihal-Kazigund section in June 2013 and the 25-kilometer-long Udhampur-Katra section in July 2014.
