The accused were identified as Rahul Manjhi, Suresh Manjhi, and Amele Kharwar. Rahul's wife, Vibha, was previously arrested and is in jail. She had provided information about the gang. Amele is Rahul's brother-in-law. The gang members would sell mosquito nets during the day and steal at night. The women in the gang would steal bags and the men would hide in train toilets, waiting for their wives to bring stolen items, before escaping with the valuables. They would then discard the bags.
