It is expected to be operational after Phase-2 starts, around a year or two later, to accommodate the increased passenger volume. Until then, Siruseri Sipcot will house 12-15 trains overnight with an elevated wash plant for cleaning. The originally planned depot at Siruseri was scrapped to reduce the project cost from Rs 89,000 crore to Rs 63,246 crore. The Madhavaram and Poonamallee depots will handle major and minor repairs for trains on Corridors 3, 4, and 5.
