Kolkata: Crucial Phase Of East-West Metro's Last Crosspassage Construction Completed

The Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) has successfully completed the primary micro-tunnelling work for the last cross-passage beneath Subodh Mullick Square, part of the East-West Metro project. This was achieved without any ground settlement or damage to the nearby eight-storey building, which was evacuated as a precaution due to water seepage...

during the micro-tunnelling work. The building's occupants are now allowed to return. KMRC had to revise its plans for the Esplanade-Sealdah section after a subsidence incident in 2022, resulting in the scrapping of three cross-passages. The completed cross-passage is one of eight planned for the section, and its completion brings the section closer to finalization. The remaining work includes concreting the tunnel rings, expected to be finished within three weeks. Cross-passages are essential emergency tunnels built at 250-meter intervals along underground Metro lines, providing a safe exit for passengers in case of emergencies.

Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) ne East-West Metro ke last cross-passage, Subodh Mullick Square ke niche, ka primary micro-tunnelling kaam successfully complete kar liya hai. Ye sab bina kisi ground settlement ya paas ke eight-storey building ko damage diye hua hai, jisko precaution ke liye last Monday ko evacuate kiya gaya...

tha. Building ke occupants ab vapas aa sakte hain. KMRC ko Esplanade-Sealdah section ke liye apne plans ko revise karna pada tha, 2022 mein ek subsidence incident ke baad, jisse teen cross-passages cancel karne pade the. Ye completed cross-passage section ke liye plan kiye gaye aath cross-passages mein se ek hai, aur iske complete hone se section apne finalization ke kareeb aa gaya hai. Baaki kaam mein tunnel rings ko concrete karna shamil hai, jiska completion agle teen hafte mein hone ki ummeed hai. Cross-passages underground Metro lines ke 250-meter intervals pe banaye jaate hain, emergency tunnels ke roop mein, jo passengers ko emergency mein, jaise fire, mein safe exit provide karte hain.
