Tunnelling under the Adyar begins as part of Metro Rail’s phase II project

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL)'s tunnel boring machine (TBM) 'Kaveri' has begun drilling beneath the Adyar riverbed as part of the city's Phase II project. ₹61,843-crore Phase II project. A 1.2 km tunnel is being constructed between Greenways Road and Adyar Junction, including a 400-meter stretch beneath the Adyar river and the Thiru. Vi. Ka. Bridge. 'Kaveri' has tunneled 583 meters and reached the riverbed, while its counterpart, 'Adyar', has covered 250 meters and is expected to reach the riverbed within 20 days. The tunneling process under the riverbed is challenging, requiring careful monitoring to prevent any settlement issues. The track will be laid at a depth of 18 meters, while the riverbed ranges from 3 to 5 meters deep. CMRL officials expect 'Kaveri' to complete the tunneling within three months. Construction at Adyar Junction station is in its initial phase but is expected to accelerate soon.

hai, yeh Corridor 3 (Madhavaram-Siruseri SIPCOT) ka ek important station hai, jo ₹61,843-crore Phase II project ka part hai. Greenways Road aur Adyar Junction ke beech mein 1.2 km ki tunnel banayi ja rahi hai, jismein Adyar river aur Thiru. Vi. Ka. Bridge ke neeche 400-meter ka stretch bhi shamil hai. 'Kaveri' ne 583 meter tunnel kar liya hai aur riverbed tak pahunch gaya hai, jabki uske saath, 'Adyar', ne 250 meter cover kiya hai aur agle 20 din mein riverbed tak pahunch jayega. Riverbed ke neeche tunnel karne ki process bahut challenging hai, CMRL officials ko yeh monitor karna padta hai ki kisi bhi settlement issues na ho. Track ko 18 meter ki depth pe laya jaayega, jabki riverbed ki depth 3 se 5 meter tak hai. CMRL officials ko umeed hai ki 'Kaveri' agle teen mahino mein tunnel karna khatam kar dega. Adyar Junction station pe construction abhi initial phase mein hai, lekin jald hi speed up ho jayega.
