The other member has a point too, about the Shiradi ghat route. While SR gets a lot of bad press for not letting trains terminate at MAQ, and forcing trains to use MAJN, many people seem to forget that SWR was the main hurdle in introducing trains though the Shiradi ghat route for many years. The Karnataka High court itself had to intervene to force them on the introduction of the Kudla express (later introduced as Gomateswara express).
For many years before the introduction of Gomateswara express, SR never denied proposals for new trains to Mangalore. The proposals never materialized as SWR was not ready to run more trains through the ghat section, and was using HMRDA as an excuse to cover...

Things are slowly changing now, only because of a change in attitude in the management and increasing interest from the politicians, not because of division/zone etc. Better to encourage that change in attitude and get the necessary trains first.
IR has been seeing zonal and divisional reorganization regularly, and there is no end to this process. Instead of demanding for the required facilities through the politicians, a lot of time is being wasted on reorganization. And history shows that, a few years down the line, there will again be demands for another reorganization.
The current minister is taking a good initiative to provide much necessary rail connectivity in the state, showing that zonal/divisional jurisdictions do not matter when the decision makers have their priorities straight. People should encourage this so that the next set of leaders too focus on running new trains etc to win over people's votes, instead of exploiting them by using some sensitive issues.
